A newcomer in AI SRE and incident investigation: three things worth knowing

Researched the week of 20 October 2026

Who is winning, and the move

Cleric is winning by publishing dated results: its homepage says it closed 58% of alerts on its own between 20 May and 15 October 2026, and engineers rated it 4.08 out of 5 between 15 September and 14 October. Resolve AI leads with named customers, Coinbase at 72% faster investigation and DoorDash from hours to minutes, and raised a $40M Series A extension at a $1.5B valuation on 16 April 2026.

The nearest competitors

On 15 October Datadog announced Scout 1.0, its first model built for production investigations, which it says matches larger frontier models at an estimated 3 to 8 times lower inference cost; it is in closed preview with no general availability date. Rootly announced on 28 July 2026 that it had acquired ThinkHive, a company that traces and evaluates AI systems and shadow-tests their fixes.

The opening

Three headline figures rest on the vendor's own judgement: Cleric's 58% counts alerts its own system judged to need no action, incident.io's January 2026 claim that its AI SRE can automate up to 80% of incident response shows no workings, and Datadog scores its cost parity on its own benchmark. incident.io and Cleric now partly answer the on-call engineer's real question, how often the diagnosis is right: incident.io grades investigations inside each customer's account, but only once an incident closes with an established cause, and Cleric reports its least confident diagnoses were right in only a third of cases. Our read is that a newcomer can win by publishing an overall hit rate before the buyer signs, with sample, period and misses shown, because the public accuracy figures, Traversal's 82 percent for a Fortune 100 financial firm among them, state none of the three.
