A newcomer in D2C skincare brands, India: three things worth knowing

Who is winning, and the move

Foxtale and Dot & Key are each visibly winning D2C skincare in India, with a different move. Foxtale named Shah Rukh Khan its brand ambassador on 14 August 2026 and on 19 August announced more than 70 billboards across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi for the first phase of the campaign; its homepage carries a GLOW20 code and a star rating on most product cards. Dot & Key launched a new formulation of its Vitamin C + E gel moisturiser with Aditi Bhatia on 1 September 2026 under the line "Glow With No Filters", and shows review counts beside every sunscreen, 1,833 on its Vitamin C + E SPF 50+.

The nearest competitors

Two competitors are worth watching. Minimalist leads with proof at the point of sale: its Niacinamide 10% serum shows 4.4 from 136,270 ratings on Nykaa, and its homepage offers Buy 2 Get 3rd Free. Plum's Skincare New Launches page lists six products with 22 to 175 reviews each, against roughly 4,800 to 6,000 on its bestsellers.

The opening

Our read is that a newcomer cannot outspend a film star's billboards or match 136,270 ratings, and does not need to. The user study is already standard: Plum's niacinamide serum cites a 36-user study from January 2024 in which 97 percent saw fewer blemishes, Foxtale's niacinamide serum a 36-volunteer study from September 2026, and Dot & Key's Vitamin C + E sunscreen a 36-person self-assessment, yet none of the three names a dermatologist. A newcomer can win by publishing every result under the name of a real dermatologist, the one piece of proof all three leave blank and the one that needs no ratings volume to earn.
